Thrush
Thrush or vaginal candidiasis, is a medical term to describe a vaginal yeast infection.
Thrush occurs when there is an excess amount of Candida Albicans in your vagina. This yeast-like fungus grows when the good bacteria in the vagina can not keep it under control, allowing it to grow and cause a build up.
Thrush is not a sexually transmitted infection (STI) but it can be uncomfortable and painful if you are undertaking everyday tasks or having sex. Thrush can be mistaken for Bacterial Vaginosis which is another form of vaginal infection but the symptoms are different enough to make it easy to differentiate between the two.

Symptoms of thrush
Common symptoms of thrush include:
itchiness and general discomfort around the vagina
soreness and itchiness around the vulva (the entrance of the vagina)
swelling of the labia (vaginal lips)
thick, white discharge from the vagina
pain during sex
a stinging sensation when you urinate
Thrush options available
Thrush is harmless but it can keep coming back if left untreated. Oral antifungal medication, vaginal pessaries or creams are the best treatment for thrush. Vaginal pessaries will be inserted directly into the vagina and clear up within a week. To avoid the development of symptoms in the future, you can wear less restrictive clothing and avoid using deodorants and other items in and around your private areas.
