Cystitis and its symptoms

Cystitis symptoms are easy to identify. You may find yourself needing to wee more often than usual, have a burning sensation and a smaller volume of urine. Cystitis can also cause blood to appear in your urine (known as hematuria) which may be a sign of other issues that you may want to have inspected and examined by a trained professional.

What can cause Cystitis?

Cystitis is normally caused by bacteria in the bladder or urethra. It is more common in women given their shorter urethra when compared to men. Bacteria can be picked up in areas that are less hygienic.

Treatments for Cystitis

Cystitis is treated with an antibiotic called nitrofurantoin or trimethoprim that is prescribed with a 3 day course. You are also advised to drink plenty of water and avoid sexual contact with others as this can aggravate symptoms.
